START Queens
START Queens currently runs out of Queens College, City University of New York, US. The Queens Chapter began its journey in September of 2016, with only 3 volunteers. Since its founding, START Queens has grown to 100+ university volunteers.

Spearheaded by Rebecca Russo, Project START Science Queens reaches more than 150 fourth and fifth graders each year who attend PS 120Q. Students learn 8-10 modules a year ranging from lessons on engineering, genetics, biology, chemistry, and physics.

START Queens is excited to expand its impact by continuing to teach and share with students across the community!
START Queens recently launched a new module exploring the realm of engineering. The students were taught about different types of bridges including:
-
Suspension Bridges
-
Arch Bridges
-
Beam Bridges
-
Truss Bridges

With these tools in hand, the kids embarked on the
Gumdrop Challenge
They built bridges that were strong, cost-effective, and efficient using gumdrops and toothpicks.
To see some of the creative well-engineered bridges, check out START Queens College.
